What is dcon? Is it safe? When mice eat it, where do they go to die? Do they smell? What of their dead bodies?
Answers:
My understanding is that the mice who eat warfarin get thirsty, so they leave the house to find water. It seems that doesn't always happen, as suggested by previous answerers.

it is poison so where ever they die thats where they lay if your other pets if you have any would happen to eat the mouse then they may become sick or even die----- and yes they smell very bad--- like every thing else their bodies will rot and lets hope you can find it or you will have a bad smell for a while

The best way to get rid of mouse is to get a female cat! But if you need it use a mouse poison, try Eagle 7 brand. It is still a toxic poison, so be careful to read product directions before use. However, in my experience the mice do not smell after they die when using Eagle 7. In my area, it can be purchased at Save-A-Lot grocery stores. And I have no financial gain in this advice. Happy mousing!
Dcon is a poison that causes mice to die of dehydration. Usually they die inside walls or in the ceilings, but since they died of dehydration they will not smell very bad and then only for a couple days. Cats will not eat a dead mouse unless they actually killed it.
D Con contains the anti-coagulant warfarin, aka Coumadin. The rodents ingest it and bleed internally causing death. The animals frequently die in inaccessible areas (in walls) and their decomposing bodies smell for days and even weeks. I used to have mice and rats. Now I have a cat and the mice and rats are gone.
From my own experience with D-con, I would have to say that I do not like it. It was our first choice for mice control because many people we know swore by it. However, the smell that comes afterwards is not pleasant, and if you have a large mice population, then the smell will keep lingering for as long as you kill mice. Our next option was to buy those live mice traps, but those sticking mice figured it's way out. So, we ended up getting a female kitty. She does wonders. Haven't had a mice around her for over a month. Cats, the only way to go.
