About how much can I expect to pay to refinish about 1,400 sq. ft. of hardwood floors?

When we bought the house, the hardwood was covered up with ugly green carpet. We pulled up the carpet, but the floors are fairly damaged and we want to refinish them.

depending what is on your floors (wax, lead paint, poly) and also the condition of the floors, your paying anywhere from 1.50 - 2.25 per square foot. i generally charge 1.50 if it just poly. painted floors i charge a little more due to the fact that most older floors have lead based paint. where are you loacated and when were you looking to get this done?
