what's the catch with direct buy?

Well if you do an internet search you can learn quite a bit about direct buy and how it works. First thing you notice is that they pretty much insist that you bring your spouse or significant other with you to your appointment. There is a reason for this. They are going to give you a hard core sales pitch when you get there. They want you to purchase a membership to be in their buyer's club, sorta like a Sam's or Costo card. I can't rememer exactly how much it was to join the Direct Buy near me but it was somewhere around $3,000. That was enough to make me cancel my appt. From what I've read they insist that you make your decision right then and there. They tell you that if you don't purchase your membership at the time of your appointment you won't be allowed to return later and purchase one. That sounds crazy but I read it from several different sources.
Also, most of their product has to be ordered from various catalogs and isn't readily available in the store. So while you are saving money on the cost of the actual furniture you pretty much make up for it in the membership costs and delivery charges.
Now if you are in the market to buy large amounts of furniture or are looking to fully furnish a new home, this could still save you a little money. If you're just looking to buy a couch or some tile, as I was, its way more trouble than its worth.
