How do I remove a musty smell from my basement. I have some water stains on the wall from previous water.?
Answers:
Clean all mold and Mildew, even if it is non toxic, it can cause and odor. After everything is clean, try a drying agent, such as charcoal, or a commercial product like DAMP RID if it is really bad, this takes the moisture out of the air, and will prevent the mold/mildew from coming back.

Most of the major home improvement stores sell charcoal bags you can hang from the rafters - helps out pretty well. A dehumidifier will aid in this also...
Put vinegar in small bottle, bowls, dishes and put them in the basement area. Smells are gone before you know it! If really bad- do it for a few days changing vinegar each day till it is gone.
mold and mildew remover or lemon bleach or pine-sol & dehumidifier. move some air around
Invest in a de-humidifier!!! They are cheap. You have too much moisture in your basement.Central Air conditioning also will solve this problem as the coil in the furnace will remove moisture in the air.
simple all you need is a bug spray container filled with bleach .twist the nooel head to mist and spray away wrap a towel over your nose and mouth and do not spend more then 5 minutes down there spraying open a window first and place a fan to blow the air out ---a widow fan works best .then get a good outdoor paint and mix in a cup of bleech with the paint and apply this will end the mold problem and brighten the basement walls .go with a gloss white for maximum light reflection and warmth .
