Dropped iron on carpet while on?

My iron has the carpet burned into it now, and when I try to use it, it burns melted carpet stuff into my shirts.

I try to rub it off the iron but it just keeps spreading.

how do I salvage this iron?

Answers:
You can't, it would be much less of a headache for you just ot buy a new one. Iron's have protective coatings on them they prevent them from doing damage to your clothes and when something gets melted on to them it ruins the coating. Irons are very inexpensive, i'm sure you could pick one up for under $10 at walmart or something.

Other answers:
leave it on really hot for a while and let it burn off the carpet. it'll stink for a while but it will get the job done.

if you don't want to stink up the place there's stuff called 'goo gone' you can get at any hardware store. it will clean anything off.

Faultless sells tubes of iron sole plate cleaner. That might work for you.
If the iron cleaner doesn't work get a can of Gum Out carburetor cleaner, it will dissolve the nylon carpet fibers seared to the iron without damaging the surface.
