Does hose down single enter a toliet from one direction when flushed?

When you flush a regular toliet, water comes from the reservoir and enters the bowl from the the holes underneath the rim. Does water enter the bowl from any other direction during the flush? We are trying to locate a dribble in a brand new installation and my husband and I are disagreeing about this. He insists within is water that enter the bowl from ''below" and I say it lone enters by the holes below the rim. What is the correct answer?
Just a regular Kohler brand toliet, no fancy hardware in the cistern, just the infirm type regular.
