Best advice I can offer is to call a pool service company to come out and explain how to operate the pool. It will be a one time expense, but will save its cost many times over in mistakes made "groping in the dark." Once you understand how the pool works it is easy to maintain.

you can buy an algecide. follow the directions on the bottle. also get a brush that is designed to brush alge from the inside of your pool.
to backwash you simply reverse the flow of water that is passing through your filter. but be sure the water is NOT flowing back into your pool. let it drain outside your pool. your filter system should have a set of valves for this purpose.
if the pool is totally green, drain the water , clean the pool and start over, you'll save money and time.
