i cannot light my gas fire it will not spark to light gas?
Answers:
If you don't see any spark when you attempt to relight the pilot according to the instructions on the appliance, then don't bother worrying about whether the gas is getting to the pilot or not because I think you should see the spark regardless. So the next question is whether your pilot ignitor requires an AC or DC power source in order for it to work. Some piezoelectric push button types don't need any power source, but if yours does, then you need to know how to safely check for the presence of the electric power at the ignitor. If power is present, then follow your manufacturer's troubleshooting procedure for the ignitor which you should fine on their website.
Safety is the first concern because gas can build up in your appliance and explode as you know. So I would bring in a professional if your not a competent repair person.

get a different lighter..you can do it
It could be that the gas range is not plugged in.
patience my dear...keep trying...in a day or 2 you'll do it
Is it battery operated??? some are, and most either take the mid sized 'C' cell, or even the huge 'D' cell (1.5volt)
If it is a Piezo striker, can you still feel the resistance the instant before it fires? maybe, the spark 'plug' contact has been bent away from the tip. Or the silicone covered connecting wire has dropped off.
Put it in an enclosed place, cover it with petrol, then stand on it holding a flare.
At this point bend down and ......
Make sure the Gas is getting to the Fire Place. Once this is Established if it still wont Light, Buy a New Igniter.
some of these answers are going in the right direction, but don't forget crud,, soot, crud and other debris need to be cleaned off the ignition area
