How to estimate consumption of home heating oil using degree days?

Answers:
Degree days give you an average temperature difference from an arbitrary point (65 F) for a given time period.. This info, combined with the information from a previous years heating season, will tell you what to expect.

Since every structure is different, you must know BOTH to estimate your possible consumption.

Sooo you add up the energy use in kWh ,(or Therms) and add up the degree days for the same period and then divide to get kWh per degree day.

Energy/DD = Energy / DegreeDay

Knowing this, you reverse the equation to estimate usage..

Energy = (Energy/DD) / DegreeDay
