Strange smell from my furnace?
Answers: It's completely normal. If you don't use a furnace for a while (over summer, for example), the heat element can get hold of a buildup of aerosol sprays, cooking vapors and smoke, dust, etc. So, when you turn it on the first time in tumble or winter, that residue has to burn rotten.
Just keep your house all right ventilated and run the furnace for a couple of hours. The smell will move about away after the residue burns off.
All of them furnaces own a smell when they are fired up for the first time. If you have a cracked fry exchanger then that would have need of to be looked into. If you are not sure then present the gas company a call and consent to them check it out for harmful gas and such. Be sure and tell them it be recently worked on and certiified ok by a licensed HVAC repairman. Show them the work charge. They have a route of seeing if carbon monoxide gas is coming into the house.
