when welding -what is the safe distance so thet others are not effected by burning rays?

Answers:
50 feet, minimum. then still pretty dumb to look at the ark, the rays are more intense then what we get off the sun. place barriers around work area, but if they are near, at the VERY least they place their hand so that it blocks the ark. thats what i do when have to walk near someone welding.

Other answers:
does not matter as long as they aren't watching the tip

nopne the light from a welding torch or rod can burn the retinas from any distance and never look at anyone welding with out a mask or guard
same as Old Dude
i would say about 5-10 feet.
any one who is welding should have a barrier around them to protect others as the weld is creating a spark nearly as bright as the sun. some dont do perhaps they dont care.

simple rule if you see someone welding dont look at the spark
In the next county! I have seen a few people that had their retinas burnt. They were way beyond in pain.
They taught us in grade school all about not looking at it.
It,s the light rays from the arc that burn. If looked at long enough, they can burn your eyes at even a hundred feet.
Use a barrier for protection when you can or just DO NOT look at an arc.
