How do I replace a fuse?

I spilled water on a plug socket and shorted the fuse for the full room. Despite unscrewing the socket and leaving it for more than two weeks to dry, I am still unqualified to flick the fuse back on to restore power. Does this close-fisted I need to replace the fuse and how do I budge about this? Or is it time to receive an electrician in?

Answers:    Although it may be dried out by in a minute, there have been arcing inside the socket, which will verbs. (smell it up close !) The only solution is to replace the socket outlet, after the MCB will reset.
have you get a trip switch box? if so try putting the switch all the road down nd press it up as hard as you can
Dont mess near electrics when you dont know what you are doing, ring an electrician. x
wet electrics, Scary, Have the circuit checked by a qualified electrical plan.Better safe than sorry. I lost everything due to an electrical fire 20 years ago. Not insured so you can dream of the position i was surrounded by.
If the fuse has blown after that circuit would be dead and wouldnt affect the trip.Switch everything bad in the room and next flick the switch
When U spilled the water on the socket did the complete house electrics shut down or just the ring D = plug sockets.

How old is ur house and electrics, within the fuse box is there a board of small switches if so next chances are if the complete houses electrics shut down u May have an rcd fitted which is an dirt leakage circuit breaker. If so its because of that ur electrics shut down because here must still be water within the socket. A cure would either be remove socket after first turning bad the power, and then asking a relative or a pious neighbour if u could use their power for a few mins to dry out the socket with a fleece drier, or u could just for peace of mind replace the socket which shouldn't cost anymore than lb5. u would also want to check that there is no hose down inside the box or wiring , Now apparently here is a new canon out re electrics and gas making it an offence to tamper beside them. However if ur competent enough to do it and its ur home later who's to know. I did exactly same as u, i dried it out and it worked fine, its the rcd that's pretty sensitive for ur safety. Good luck, please permit me know if i have be of any help.

Sounds approaching something shorted out during your accident. I suggest getting an electrician to check it out. They are in good health trained and electricity can be very perilous.

Safety First!
Is it a fuse, or should it be an MCB (Miniature Circuit Breaker)?
If it is an MCB this might also be RCD protected.
If so have you tried resetting that first?
You'll know if is RCD protected because it have a test button subsequent to the switch.
Also on the front of the box should be a notice which say something like "This installation is protected by a device which automatically switches past its sell-by date the supply......".
most people are afraid of electricity and do not approaching to preform this kinda work. the reason is because on most houses (around me) do not enjoy a main disconnect to cut sour power to the fuse box. the only path is to remove the meter from the base.
then again if your like me you dont caution if its alive or not. you disconnect all wires going into the fuse and you remove it and include the new one. they a short time ago snap in most of the time,
