It may be as easy as just changing your main breaker - from a 60 AMP one to a 100 AMP one.
A 100-120 AMP breaker will cost you around $140. Add cost of labor - another $150.
I am asuming this is for an air conditioner, right?

Not sure what its going to cost you . it all depends on where you live and if you are doing it yourself . also i would say if you are going to upgrade your service i would definitely upgrade to a 200 Amp service because it doesn't cost that much more and gives you plenty of room for expansion.

It's almost never as simple as replacing a 60 amp breaker with a 100 amp breaker. If your main panel box came with a 60 amp main , then the box is only rated for 60 amps of load. It would probably overheat with 100 amps of load on it. The buss bars are larger in higher amp boxes to carry the additional loads.
You should consider going to a 200 amp box if you decide to upgrade, with the constantly changing status of our modern electrical needs it won't be long before that's the norm. The boxes vary in price from region to region as well as from dealer to dealer, so you'll have to do some shopping. If you can do it yourself, call the electric company to have them pull your meter before starting and have plenty of battery powered light available. Not much more fun than working on electrical stuff in the dark.
