Why do window air conditioners frost over?

Remember that you have to have the right size unit for the room you are trying to cool. If it is the right size and your not trying to keep your home like a freezer then the unit will cycle on and off about 3 times an hour after it reaches your temperature setting. If the temperature setting is to low, then the unit keeps running and never shuts off, combined with possible dirty filter (Yes, they do have filters) or dirty coils outside.
