Answers: I've done residential, commercial and industrial work.
Of adjectives of them I would say I disliked person a Residential Electrician most. A lot of the time I was working alone, the recompense wasn't as good and you have to hunt for a house to wire adjectives the time. The pay wasn't as well-mannered because of competition from all the fly by darkness guys who will do it fast and cheap but sometimes not gain everything right. When you got finished beside one house you had to find another.
The work be pretty easy. Some of the stuff I have to do included planning the layout of the homes electrical system, putting up boxes for the switches, lights and receptacles. Pulling romex (NM cable), mount and install the breaker panel and service entrance conductors as all right as mounting the meter base. Then you have to wire everything up and install devices. Neatness other counts and you must install everything in a tidy and workmanlike manner.
As far as knowing the National Electrical Code (NEC), residential work required the most ease as I had to know adjectives the codes associated with adjectives of the above and more.
I liked person a Commercial Electrician second best. The pay be better, there be more work but some of the safety practices at the mission I was at weren't that great. My second daylight on the job they have me wiring up a 480/277V panel. The panel be hot and we wore no PPE! Now I look back at how foolish this be but at the time it was work.
Most of my living duties were impossible to tell apart as residential. Mount boxes for switches, receptacles and lights, install the service. Instead of NM cable everything is stranded or solid conductors pulled through EMT conduit. So beside that I had to know how to bend conduit within such a way so that I could follow the code and install it surrounded by a workmanlike manner. Same as residential you own to install all the devices and chain everything up. Here I was on a crew and lots times we would all own to get together to backing pull telecommunication or install the service. Everything on the service side is larger and one person would own a hard time handling it adjectives by himself (or herself, there are ladies out there).
Here I have to know the code but not as much as with residential work. The justification is everything is already designed by an engineer down to receptacle locations and how masses conductors are to be installed in a conduit along next to conduit sizes. The only authentic leeway we have was the route that we could install the conduit. Even so its pious to know the code because engineers make mistakes too!
Of adjectives of these I liked human being an Industrial Electrician best. The work at the chemical plant I was at be constant but not very hurried. Here it be better to do it right the first time instead of rushing it. The pay be best of the three and I got better benefits. This plant is fundamentally very not detrimental. I never once worked on anything I considered dangerous and never on anything live. I have plenty of PPE and lots of training. Job security here is correct especially if you can get within on the maintenance side of things. Stuff will other break and someone always have to fix it. Its good to be the guy who know how to fix it!
Here I worked on a crew and would divide up with a PA for the day for most standard work. Work here involved a lot of duplicate stuff as before. Instead of EMT (a high walled tubing) conduit we used rubber coated RMC (rigid metallic conduit). It is a lot heavier and requires a hydraulic or rachet bender or a "hickey" to work beside instead of the simple hand bender used next to EMT. RMC also must be threaded instead of using compression fittings that are used with EMT. The line would be ran to motors so you would own to know how to wire up a motor. Starters are also used so you must know how to rope starters and wire up the controls and pushbuttons associated next to them. I hardly ever touched a switch or receptacle at this brief. It was adjectives installing RMC or cable tray and pulling wire, electrical system up starters and pushbuttons. Occasionally we would install a motor control center (MCC) and wire up adjectives of this. We would also pull the rope from the MCC up to a unit substation. Installation and electrical system of a substation also occured every so often. The work be a little harder largely because of the work with heavier RMC and the larger line.
I didn't have much scope in running conduit and everything be designed by an engineer. It be good to know the code so you could check up on your work but it wasn't as necessary as with residential work. Here everything must be installed within a neat and workmanlike carriage as well.
But truthfully the BEST of adjectives is being an Electrical Engineer. I go back to conservatory and figured I could work easier near my brain than with my spinal column. I actually work at like chemical company that I worked with as an Industrial Electrician. I'm on the other side of the paling now and like mad of my work involves calculations and equipment specs. I also business deal a lot contained by the safety aspect to hold the plant as safe as or safer than it be when I worked there as an Industrial Electrician.
A lot of the designing I do involves seriously of work with the substations I mentioned previously. I do lots of nouns calculations as very well as circuit coordinations. I rarely treaty with things smaller than a 200A nouns at 480V. My job duties also include other things that are pretty fun approaching working with generator, some control systems and classifying hazardous areas. I also get into a honourable amount of troubleshooting. When I have to bring into troubleshooting its usually difficult as the problem has already be troubleshot by someone else and they couldn't solve the problem. This can get fundamentally involved and take like mad of time. Many times a data recorder must be placed on the circuit and you might own to wait a week or longer for the problem to take place again. After that happens you may spend a moral while figuring out why it happen and what you can do to prevent it in the adjectives. I'm very fortunate contained by this area as I work beside 3 other very smart EE's that are other willing to support. I am always geared up to help them as ably.
I have to know the NEC forwards and backwards presently and I also have to be extraordinarily familiar beside other codes as well as powerful computer software to analyze electrical systems. I really love this brief because it varies every daytime and I can get out surrounded by the plant frequently to actually see everything. A lot of my work keep me brushed up on many calculation so I enjoy that greatly as powerfully.
Overall I am very proud of the work I enjoy done in the recent past and all the opening to present day. I am also greatly proud to work for the company I do now and of adjectives the companies I have worked beside previously. Pride in your work help tremendously. If you are happy near your job the weeks will outdo by very like lightning even though the work may be grueling. I've had plenty of grueling work both mentally and physically, but I own enjoyed every minute of it.

Residential electricians have to know codes going on for residential housing and commercial electricians have to codes roughly buildings made for businesses.
Either way you are going to hold get some formal instruction.

an industrial electricians pay can pulsation both commercial and residential. there is more codes you involve to know, and the work is harder, but factories other need something done. so you work year round.
