95 year old house has a smell?
Answers:
IF the smell is coming from under your house, as I understand your question, then you have a moisture problem with either your fresh water leaking or your sewer lines leaking. You first need to make sure that your crawlspace vents are open and that plenty of fresh air is able to circulate under your home. Next look under the house for any noticeable standing water and obvious water dripping from the floor above or from water and/or sewer pipes. As for the smell, you could try an ozone machine. Some rental stores rent these machines, if not you could contact a fire restoration contractor who most likely owns an ozone machine and will let you rent theirs. The ozone machine is the quickest way to eliminate the odor.

the cause of the smell is probably a dead body in the attic and the cheapest way to get rid of the smell is to stick cotton wool up your snout.
it could be damp.
Maybe call and / or have a septic company come out and get a professional opinion if you have septic.If it is public sewer then contact the sewer company . Or have the town sanitarian check it out or at least call someone anonymously and get an opinion.
you see ur problem can be handled in two one is to cure symptom another is to cure disease ,,,best and cheapest solution would be regularly using air - freshners {may be use an auto matic one} but that would cure only the symptom ,,,,,to cure problem from root u have to get plumbing and sewage checked ,most probably there is a leak some where and worst case would be if u need to get plumbing and plastering again ......my suggestion is to get it checked first if leak can be found and corrected in cheap way then do that or else just use air fresheners ,no sense in wasting $$$ on repair of such old house . unless u love it....{the building i mean not the smell}
Check all of your vents are clear through the roof, leaves can accumulate over time and leak back into the house.
