How do i fix a problem near the carb et on an elec generator?
Answers: You do enjoy a fuel supply problem, that is perceptible. Is there a sediment bowl that the fuel runs through up to that time the carb? This is a common problem. If you own a sediment bowl, remove it. There should be a paper filter inside that wants replacing.
I just have this problem on an engine at work. Changed the filter, problem fixed.
Check for an inline fuel filter; generators are repeatedly fueled from jerry cans full of rust and other crap. Or probably an overlooked fuel petcock valve's not fully open?. Probably gravity feed, perhaps there's a bad/pinched fuel splash between the carb's inlet and the tank.
Maybe the plunger valve/seat is dirty- or needs on the same wavelength.
Maybe your fuel is old?
I'm simply venturing my best guesses-hope it'll confer you something to work with...
I can practically guarantee you that you hold water surrounded by your gas. That is why it runs briefly, then shuts sour. The shaking from starting the generator "knocks" water away from the fuel splash. When it "settles down", water (which is heavier than gas) get in the rank and makes it shut down. You can prove this by syphoning some gas from the bottom of the container into a glass container. You will see "bubbles" of hose (in the bottom) and probably rust, as other answerers have suggested. Better on the other hand, drain the tank by clamping the fuel column, then un-attaching it from the carb and afterwards drain it into an approved container. Dispose of the gas in an ecologically responsible deportment. You actually ought to be capable of use most of it in the generator if you remove the hose down. The water will settle to the bottom of the container.
