Why isn't the 'thing' on the bottom spinning contained by my dishwasher?

I'm not sure what it's called, the item with holes for sea, and the tube that pops up during the cycle.

Anyways, it's not spinning, and everything else *seems* to be working fine. What could be the problem???

Answers:    the thing is call a wash arm or bathe impeller. depending on how old the d/w is, it could be that the deportment or bushing on it is worn out, or some food crud has gummed it up. if you don't hear the nouns of water splashing around when you run the d/w, and this is what is making you regard that it isn't working, it could be a broken impeller in the pump or a clog contained by the pump, too. that would be a different impeller than the one that you see under the dish picnic basket, it's inside the pump under the tub, resting on the motor. it all depends on how behind the times your d/w is (wear), and how "clean" the dirty dishes are when you load it (food gunk). hope this help.
The force of the water coming out is what make it spin. I will assume the water is working. If not, after that is your problem. If river IS coming out, then something is blocking "the thing" from turning. Is near a knife or fork that fell through the silverware division? How about a pot manipulate down between the rack? Or is there something on the bottom of the dishwasher poking upward to stop it - resembling a broken glass or a utensil of some sort? Be wary poking around.
