most electric companies recommend 78-81 degrees to retrieve energy. and hold you house cooled constantly. don't wait for it to fry up then turn on the a/c. that cause the a/c to run for prolonged periods of time, usually during top usage hours.
I live in Texas so in the order of 75. On hot days (days it's not raining) It should be about 70. But i've be keeping it on 75 , 76 all the time. If you live contained by Yankee land the thermo should be 75. Which is other about the comfort zone. If it is really hot next 73.
