how much does it cost to resurface wood floors that are about 50 years old? i think they're oak?
Answers:
This is a dirty nasty job requiring experience and specialized equipment. I highly recommend that you hire the services of a professional hardwood flooring contractor.
Given the information, it is not possible to give an estimate. Geographical location, square footage of floor to be refinished, presence of steps to be refinished, and repair prior to refinishing all will have an effect of the price. There are other considerations such as staining and/or choice of finish type. You get the picture.
Best advice is to decide on the stain and/or finish type and solicit estimates from reputable hardwood floor specialists. Have each contractor bid based on the same criteria and you will be able to make an informed buying decision.
Good luck with your refinishing project.

we paid about $1200 for about 800 sq ft. It was not sanded, they use a chemical spray then they use a buffer machine. Mine are about 50 years old too. Looks very nice and they re-sealed them too.

It doesn't matter what the wood is. It would depend if you mean just giving them another finish coat, or the sanding as well. All places have different rates, so you would not be able to get a reliable quote here. Just talk to a professional in your area
