how do i fix an electric saw it runs ok but when put to work it just dies ie no torque thanks joe?

would a faulty capacitor cause this

Answers:
Hmm, not the capacitor or it wouldn't start at all. As for the switch, maybe but it would probably start and stop erratically. I'd go for the brushes. Do they spark a lot when it does run? If so they're cheap to replace and it's worth a try.

Other answers:
faulty capacitor would make the motor inoperable. Sounds like your wiring is losing it's ability to stay cool. Amperage is what produces power, and the windings on your motor determine the amperage produced by the induction in the motor. I could be wrong but it sounds like your motor is gone.

brushes would cause this, or the switch
Sorry to say thi but you need a new saw. The windings in the one you have are shotand it would be cheaper to buy a new one than repair the old one.
I'd be inclined to think its the brushes as well.If theres a place that services power tools near you I'd bring it in for service to be on the safe side. They will usually tell you what needs doing and at least the work would be covered if it breaks down again.
