Are gas ovens supposed to be this hot?

The inside of my gas oven, never turned on, is really hot. I store pans in there and I can't even touch them with bare hands. Is this normal, or do I need to have someone come in and make sure it's not set too high?

Answers:
the bottom drawer on a gas oven is the roasting pan- you can store pans in there like an electric oven
when i moved in with my wife i saw her put a chicken in the bottom drawer, and i was like what the heck? i guess it's for cooking down there, which explains why I got in trouble for putting pans under there.
So, don't worry your not the only one.

P.S.- The pilot light is under that drawer, so if it stays really hot, and when you don't use it at all, then you may need someone to adjust the flame on it, it may be to high.

Other answers:
Have someone look at it.
Have someone look at it.
That seems a little high - there should be some heat, as there is always a pilot light going.....but too hot to touch? Sounds like the pilot is set too high...
You're probably feeling the heat from the standing pilot light that is always on. If your stove has pilots for the top burners, it has a pilot in the oven.
I'd have someone check it out. My gas oven doesn't hold heat like that -- and I don't believe it should.
Call your gas company, usually they will come out for free!
yea have someone take a look at it just in case.
Something is wrong with your stove, unless it is sitting out in the sun in the 100 + degree weather we are having this month.
warm yes but i haven't known one to be that hot. they so stay warm because of the pilot light... you may want to call and check with a local appliance company to see, or check with neighbors & friends. when we had a gas oven it NEVER got that hot.
i haven't had a gas oven in years...............but i don't remember it being that hot. it might be your igniter flame needs adjusting.
The pilot light is causing the heat. Don't store anything that can melt and have the light checked to see if it is set too high.
I don't think it is supposed to be that high. You should call your local gas company, they will check your appliances for free.
P.S. my oven gets really hot during the summer since we have no AC, but not THAT hot. Get it checked out!!
Definitely get a repairman in to check on it. Not only is it not normal for an oven to get that hot if it's not turned on, but there may be other issues like a gas leak. You don't want an explosion, now, do you?
your pilot light might be letting out too much gas. I think it can be adjusted. I would call someone out unless you feel completely safe doing this. Have you tried taking the knob of and making sure that it is not out of sync. Mine is that way so I have to be careful that the knob is turned all the way off.
i have a gas oven to but we dont store stuff there um well i think that it shouldnt be hot because ares isnt so maybe you should call some one
The pilot light is too freakin hot. Its gonna blow get out immediately
ok u need to first make sure it is completely off like if there is a knoib for the oven it may be slightly off have it looked at i have been cookin since i was 5 and im now 13 so i know a lot about these kinda stoves but have it looked at and possibly get a new oven
You do want to have someone come in and check this out as it may cause injury to you or someone else.
i used to work at a camp where our oven had a high resting temp, it has to do with the pilot light. Home ovens probably shouldnt be that hot. although call the company that made your stove and check it out. it maybe normal for that oven, or they may tell you how to fix it. If they cant or dont call your gas company
