Does anybody know if the construction managment field is competeitive?

I want to be a construction manager I am goin for a BS in construction management at polytechnic university and i would like to know if it is hard to get a job, is the job stressful or fun and how competetive salaries are in the north east.

Answers:
Of course the field is competetive. You shouldn't have a lot of trouble securing an entry level position following graduation. You might want to look into some kind of co-op position while you are in school. You may get some help with the cost of your education and the experience will look good on your resume. It may even lead to a job offer following graduation. The highest salaries go to the persons with the most experience and a proven track record.

Like any other job, construction can be fun. It is all in your attitude and your desire to succeed. The career you have chosen can be very stressful. You will be dealing with subcontractors, material suppliers, Unions (maybe), weather, architects, building owners, governmental agencies, and emerging technologies; at the same time you are expected to stay on budget and on time. The sense of accomplishment when the job is well done is very real since you can always look at the building and say "I built that!"

Good luck in your career.

Other answers:
Construction Management is competitive. Additionally, companies seek managers with lots of field experience. Your smart to have a degree, but you'll have to build time once your out of school. The more projects you work on the more things you'll learn and the better you'll look to a big company. The best place to start is with a small commercial tenant finish company. You'll get to work on a lot of different projects. And "NO" it's not that stressful, although you can make it that way if you want. I never get stressed out, I and my clients know that problems are going to happen, that's why I have this job.

Good Luck !!
