Beer is like any other carpet spill except that the smell will dissipate on it's own, so all you are left with is the stain if it left any. And it usually doesn't , it is the people walking over it or dust that gathers on the wet spot that causes any visual mark.
If you caught it soon enough then just put some paper towels over it to soak it up, put your foot over the paper towel and press on it. It shouldn't leave any residual stain.
If you caught it after the fact then simply heavily spray it with ordinary carpet cleaner (about $3.00 for an off brand) and let it stand for 30 minutes, vacuum it up, stain gone.

The is a product on the market called Odoban you can get it from Sams Club. It takes the smell out of anything!

To suck it up, put some baking soda in a woman's nylon and hold the nylon in the vacuum. It will absorb the liquid. Then febreeze.
Maybe a Steamvac or that Oxyclean stuff, they claim it can clean anything.... I also read fabreeze; but I think that is just for the Odor.
