The tradition of builders placing a coin underneath the door or fanlight trademark of the cottage they enjoy built?

Answers:    When my parents built their house we put a coin into the drizzling concrete slab where ever within was an exterior door. I remember dad recitation me it was for luck. My dad be born in india but his clan came from England. They moved here contained by 1939.
I carried on the tradition with the coin when I built my house contained by 1994.
