Please listen don't ever except in extreme cases rip up you're floor filing it 's an option .but at your local rental store and also most hardwood floor supplier they'll rent the sander.Don't panic if it's a small area a belt sander will get the job done . Key is small. if your area is say 5'x 5'any thing bigger and let me told Yous a stowee Sorry, redneck was commin out.pull up the shoe molding around the perimeter.Little rounded board 3/4x1/2" (usually) and get off your as# and get to work it won't do it by itself Oh about the rental Try not torent the ones that resembly a floor buffer.Suppliers will usually (if they're worth their weight in salt show you how to use the equip.for another couple points I'll walk ya through stain .and sealers have fun

How long is each individual board? I myself am just now moving into a new house with hardwood floors (the cutest little thing you've seen, I SWEAR! *l*), and the panels installed aren't very long. With the few scratches we have (and a few leftover boards from the previous tenants), replacing them ourselves shouldn't be a problem. Would doing it yourself require you to rip out your entire floor?
