does anyone know why my pipes are making a rather loud noise after the water is shut off?

This usually happens after I take a hot shower. After I turn off the shower, a few seconds later, I will hear a loud noise comming from the pipes in the wall. This has not happened for 15 years in this house and has just started happening.

Answers:
the pipes are hot from you running water. they are just cooling down. most of the time you will hear it louder in the older plumbing, because it is galvanized or copper. most new plumbing is pvc(form of plastic)it will not hurt anything. If you listen very carefully, you will also hear the pipes making noise when you turn on the hot water. this is due to the hot water starting threw a cool pipe.

air
I know that it is air in the lines, so you either had a new water heater put in or drained you water heater. If neither then you have a ruptured line. I am sure how to get it out though. Good Luck
There is air in the pipes and it's causing them to "sing" and vibrate and rattle. It will get worse, you have to bleed the pipes.
It's water hammer caused by air in the pipes. Check for minor leaks or loose pipes
Its in with the pump kicking off or on.the lose of water presure will do it right?
