Do I need to disconnect the the bonding jumper when changing from a 3 prong to 4 prong dryer cord?

What does the bonding jumper look like? I got the dryer with no cord (must have got lost in transport?) so can't base anything on how it was previously wired.
Thanks

Definately! If you don't, there is a very high potential of getting shocked.

The bonding jumper connects between the neutral terminal and the dryer's frame. The neutral wire carries current and sometimes more current than the hot wires with an unbalanced load. You don't want this wire connected to your dryer's metal frame.

The bonding jumper is typically either a metallic strap (copper or copperclad) or a green wire that connects between the neutral (white wire) terminal and a green ground screw on the dryer's frame. Remove this for a 4-wire cord.

To connect your 4-wire cord: Terminate each wire to the terminal with the corresponding color (white to white, black to black and red to red). Your green (ground) wire will now connect to the green ground screw on your dryer's frame.
