I just get a upright sunbeam mixer from freecycle. It wasn't used for comparatively a while, some years I think. I cleaned up and turned it on. The lone problem is it smells kinda funny when I run it so far. It seems to run smooth near no problems, is this normal for an elder machine, should I hold it serviced or something? I doesn't smell like anythings burning or anything, it's only just sort of a metalic smell.
Answers: The smell your refering to is the varnished cambric on the copper windings of the motor. They heat up and impart off a distinctive smell. Condensation may hold gotten in near while you had it stored creating a small arc--cooking it sour as you use it. My advice is to use it till it quits, throw it away and buy a unsullied one. Unless it's under warranty, as you would expect. The cost to get it serviced would be more than a trial one.
