How costly and time consuming is it to fix a uneven floor? How about part of the roof?

I am looking into purchasing a older home. The floors are a bit uneven, but nothing too drastic. Has anyone had to fix the same problem? How costly was it to fix? Is it ver hard? How about a roof. Only a section of the roof needs to be lifted to be even, but still nothing drastic. I am just looking for some direction on the subject. Any comments would help me bunches! Thanks

One thing that may help is to use floor jacks to slowly (and I mean very slowly, no more than 1/4" per month) raise it back to level, then install permanent posts to hold it in position. You do have to install footers in the basement for the posts. The roof should be a similar fix.

my guess (since i cant see the house) is that there is a problem with the foundation. it has most likely settled causing the uneven floors and roof. I'm a do it yourself er, but that's a problem I wouldn't even consider doing. you would need professional help on that, which I would think would be expensive. if you can get a good deal on the house it might be worth it tough, otherwise, keep looking.

It may be the foundation, but much more likely its sagging framing. In the old days, they would span greater distances than they allow now. Over time, the wood starts to sag creating low spots. I'm not sure if your wood is sagging, but if the low spots appear at the middle of a span, you can bet that's what it is.

If the wood is sagging, you'll need a professinal opinion on how to solve the problem. Adding more weight to level it out can make it sag more and maybe break the member.
