Can I drill holes surrounded by a clawfoot tub?

I am re-doing a bathroom and bought a clawfoot tub (used) that I am now discovering solely has one hole for the overflow. Can I drill holes for the retro-shower coverter I want to use?

Answers:    The tub will be made out of stereotype iron if it is one of the old ones, could be drilled beside the right equipment. Why not change the faucet to one next to the shower coming out of the top of the tub spout. I know that this style is out there I own installed many for my customers. Check next to your local hardware store or on the internet.
ah... I would go bring back a cheap plate and see if you can get through that beside your drill without breaking it, it's like peas in a pod stuff, I would guess that you can't. The surface tension on something approaching that is pretty illustrious, at the very lowest possible you would split the paint/seal on the inside, and it wouldn't be a pretty hole either.
