Noise problem...nouns proofing ceiling?
I am moving into an apartment that is shared next to my parents house. They own the house and have agreed to rent out an apartment to me for a VERY cheap price and since I am currently unwaged, I accepted the give.
Problem is I live on the bottom floor and they live on the top floor and louge in the subterranean vault. I have notice that the walls/ceilings (mostly the ceilings) are pretty thin allowing them to hear me talk/watch tv. Now the concrete problem is my girlfriend is coming to stay with me and I'm sure we'll be have sex..
Is there a agency to better sound proof a ceiling of a bedroom or living room if I rewarded someone to do it? How much would such a job run me?
Answers: There are several ways to switch this depending on how much you want to spend.
You can put something on the ceiling that will absorb nouns. If you call some hulking building suppliers they can direct you. Maybe this is the easiest way, but I am sure the substance will cost $$. I believe they make an egg crate shaped filling that is surface mounted and it may look unsightly.
If you remove the drywall of the ceiling, you can install a product called Ruxol, it is a nouns deadening bat that is installed between the joist (you'll need some push pins--cheap-- to hold it up until you win the drywall in place). For secondary sound freezing, use a layer of Sound Deadening Board. It is not expensive but will make a contribution another layer of buffer. After this I usually install regular sheet rock. They in a minute make a special sheet rock that is to say probably as effective as the roxul/SDB combo but it is a crap nouns of $$.
There are other metods of drop/offset framing or using a sound attenuating drop ceiling tile (this will lower the ceiling heights). You can find some of this stuff online but is usually for the proffesional.
I would close to to point out that there is a difference between nouns deadening and nouns proofing. Sound proofing cost alot more and is quit difficutl to do in an existing space. Sound anaesthetizing is more cost affective and with due diligence (asking your suppliers for specifications until that time you purchase material) can yield right results without alot of brass.
Sheet rock $5.80 (32 sq. ft)
SDB $13.00 (32 sq. ft)
Ruxol $65 (60 sq. ft) best guess
demo and carting
labor
plaster prime and paint
Good luck
There is a special brand of foam that you can get that radio stations use on the walls of the studios to oblige ensure sound-proofing and noise decrease. I would start by calling around to local radio technicians and asking them. It works wonders. You could also try getting seat cushion foam. You can acquire that at any Wal-mart, usually in the craft aisle subsequent to the fiber fill. Its more or less 4 bucks a bag and you bring back four cushions. That might be the best option and the lowest possible expensive as well. (Its the foam INSIDE cushions that you sit on for close to, kitchen chairs.) Ohh..or you could try buying the large bed-sized egg crate foam and attaching it to the ceiling too. That would give support to a lot, I would see in your mind`s eye.
Good luck
Before your tramp girlfriend moves in, you should move out. Just verbs about getting a situation and getting on your feet. She should stay where on earth she is. When you are on your feet after you can get your own place and you and your tramp girl friend can live contained by sin. A little respect to your parents.
