Why would my dryer just stop working in the middle of a cycle?

I was only drying my second load of laundry and during the middle of the cycle it just stopped working, now it won't come back on. Do I get it fixed or buy a new one?

buy a clothes line
well...have you been paying your dryer enough money?

i would see if i could get it fixed first...it might be something really simple...dont buy a new one until you have checked out all possibilities

Air Power
Go to the mechanic.
its broken
I will assume it Electric. You may check your "Breaker Box" See if the Circuit is "Throwed" may just been a Fluke Happening and turn the Breaker all the way off and back on and see if the Dryer work. IF, it keep Throwing the Breaker there may be something wrong. All I know to try. Dryers are fairly simple, so, it can only be a few things. The Heater Coil in the Back Broke or the Dial going bad.
It might be overheating.

Check that your exhaust duct isn't clogged. If it is a long duct (mine is over 20') then stick an electric leaf blower into it and clean it out.
Try taking it apart some and cleaning it out. The filter may be clogged, there may be lint around the dryer element, the vent hose may be clogged. Overheat sensors may be shutting it down. There's not a lot to go on, here you don't mention if it's electric or gas, etc.
You can clean out the hose, filter, etc. by yourself. I'd do all that first, it'll need done anyway even if you get a new one.
After making sure air can get through it all the way to outside, then I'd call around and check on repairmen. Sometimes you can find an honest, reasonably priced one who will come out and check it out for you for a small fee and tell you what the problem is. If a guy knows what he's doing it only takes a few minutes most of the time to figure out what's wrong. Then, he'll be able to give you an estimate of the repair costs. Depending on the make and model, repair parts can be expensive. Anything Sears sells is about cheaper to replace than to get parts for. Their parts are 10 times the cost as what they should be. Other products are more reasonably priced.
Your dryer has probably become too hot and the overtemp module shut it down. It is a common safety feature on many new dryers.
If the high temperature switch shut down the dryer, it could be because there's another real problem with the dryer; or it could be the temperature switch merely went bad due to age (which happened to me). Either way, if your dryer will no longer work, you need to have it inspected by an experienced repair man.
You did not indicate if your dryer is gas or electric. If it is electric, you did not indicate if it stops heating, or the motor stops running.

If it stops heating but continues to run, you may have a problem with air flow. cleaning your duct work and the parts of the dryer that handle air movement such as the filter compartment, fan housing, and exhaust duct will take care of it.
The other possibility is a faulty thermostat, or possibly faulty overtemp thermostat.

If the motor stops running in mid-cycle it can be 2 things, usually it is the motor itself is clogged with lint build-up, and cannot cool itself, causing an overtemp switch inside to cause it to stop. Vacuuming it out will correct this. The other possibility is that it is being loaded down from a binding drum or worn drum guides. This doesn't happen too often though, but worth checking.

Hope this helps.
