Should I turn my natural gas furnace off in the summer to save energy or leave it on?
Answers:
Leave it on, doesn't cost but pennies (OK maybe a buck) a month. It is only the pilot light. Honestly not worth my time when it gets cold and you forgot to light it earlier. Good question though.
Other answers:
Turn it off. The pilot light should remain on, so it should start again in the cold weather.

Call the gas company. Some furnaces are difficult to light and newer ones have electrical lighting.
When you call the gas company have the brand name of the furnace for them. The degree of difficulty of getting it started again may help you determine whether to turn it off.
