A piece of paper got sucked into the intake vent of the central air conditioner. What should I do? Damage?
Answers:
It needs to be removed. In most cases the coil is before the fan. If the paper is on the coil, you have blocked airflow across parts of your coil that will reduce heat transfer and could cause your unit to freeze up. The fan would not chew up the paper. If the fan has the paper in it then you again will have decreased airflow. It wouldn't cause any physical damage to the unit.
Good Luck
Other answers:
unlikely there is damage. turn off the unit and look to be sure.
the intake is just a fan and motor with a coil around it, paper should be harmless.
if it is a lot of paper, you need to remove to fan cage (with power off) and get it out.

If it was just one piece of paper, I wouldn't worry about it too much. It probably just got chewed up by the squirrel cage fan. I would be careful not to let any more paper go in there keep the hole closed and keep your filter installed. If it is still cooling good, I wouldn't worry about it just try not to let any more paper go.
Should have ben stopped by the air filter. Turn off unit an change filter. If you mean it got PAST the filter. You really do need to get it out as it can clog your coil gutter and cause a condensate leak.
