Here is another example of Murphy's law. That piece of whatever could have fallen anywhere in the bottom of the dishwasher but chose to fall directly into the pump. If you are not mechanically inclined or do not have the proper tools to disassemble the pump you should call for service as the piece of whatever can cause more harm than good.
If you do decide to attempt to retrieve the piece do not get in over your head and take things apart that are not intended to come apart. The repairmen realy love it when that happens and is reflected on the bill (costing you more) at the end of the job.

One thing to do, call the serviceman.We could tell you whats wrong with it but you cant fix it. Keep it off.
Don't use it anymore until a dishwasher service person has had a look at it - it's got moving parts - and if it's now making a horrible noise - it's not likely to improve - is it ? You'll just have to wash up by hand until you can get someone to look at it. The more you use it - the more likely you'll damage it further - to the point where the repair will be more expensive than it needed to be or worse it becomes unrepairable !
correct something fell down into the blades of the pump and you will cause major damage. take everything out get a flash light and see if you can pick it out. remember the dish washer fills up with hot water then heated by the coil and the pump is what makes the water wash the dishes and when it is through with its cycle the pump pumps the water to your sink usually through the garbage disposal.
