i cant start my lawnmower do you now what might be the problem?
Answers:
Take the plug out, put it back in the plug wire, ground the threads to the head and pull the engine over... got spark? then try a little gas down the carb (or starting fluid). Does it start? if it starts then you do have a fuel delivery problem. Was fuel stabilizer used? If no, then you have a gummed up carb, best way to do it is take it off, and apart and blow it out with carb cleaner through any and all holes you see good. And drain and use fresh gas in the tank. Does the airfilter look dirty and clogged? Replace it.
NOW if it didn't have spark to start off with, take the kill wire off the coil (its under the shroud, the shroud has to come off) and try it again, if you get spark, then you have a bad kill switch, if still no spark, yeah try a new plug just to make sure, but the ignition coil probablly isn't working. (if its old, may have point/condensor ignition system under the flywheel) now if you get spark, and gas down the carb or nothing will start it, then it has a sheared flywheel key. The flywheel has to come off to check it right.
Things to make sure of is that the blade is on good and tight if its a pushmower, and the stop cable (if its a pushmower) is operating.

Fouled spark plug, gas that has been sitting too long in it, no gas, clogged air filter....been there...LOL

If it sat for the winter you may have a few problems...clean out the fuel tank and put in fresh gas...take out the plug and clean it well....then keep tugging till it starts
go to the briggs and stratton home page. It will help.
Do you keep the mower outside? Could it have rained on the mower? If so, you may have water in the gas. Go to a paved area and put down a plastic sheet. Get a metal container, like a painter's bucket and put it next to the fuel line while you detach it from the tank to empty the tank. Or, carefully tip the mower all the way on it's side while holding the bucket under the tank to empty it. Get it ALL out! Gas floats on water and you will notice the water at the bottom of the bucket or drops at the bottom. Dispose of this gas responsibly by taking it to a service station or landfill that accepts it. Get some new fuel. Pull many times to get the line filled with new fuel. Starter fluid is good sprayed into the carb at getting things going. If you still have no start check for a fouled plug or mineral deposits in your carburator nozzle (from the water in the gas!) if it still doesn't start. It is not that hard to take apart and re-assemble, just keep really, really good track of how it was put together.
thanks for asking the question have same problem . thanks again all you smarts .
make sure you have hands.. fuel... working spark plugs... good wiring connection for ignition.... and the most important... do you have a lawnower?
It might be the spark plug oor the motor might be gone or its old it might need a good cleaing inside take it in to get fix
572 knows his stuff. Easily the best answer.
You need to check the power supply if it is electric. Because of safety features a lot of tehm cut out for no reason. I don't believe trying to fix it yourself is a good idea.
Sorry.
