Ihave over 10 years hands on experience in carpentry, painting and minor plumbing also have limited experience in electrical work. have been doing jobs for customers, but no one has ever asked for a license

Answers:
Depends totally on where you live.

In Michigan, if the work you do is under 600.00 than you do not need a license for most home repair.

Check with your state and local web sites and see what they have on there that pertains to your line of work.

GOOD LUCK

Technically, every time you install an electric outlet you need a permit. For working in your own home, I'd say no but if you are working in other people's homes, than definately.
I am not certain of the specifics but you really should check with the local authorities on this one. I do know however that almost anything to do with electrical or adding on new requires permits. Please call first. If you work on someone's home and something goes wrong you will be held fully responsible.

Even in your own home, you could get into trouble if you don't get a permit and you should have. Your house insurance could be voided.
In the Walgreen's Perfect World you are doing just fine so far but until you mess something up real bad and go to court for it, you'll be in big big trouble with the IRS! I wouldn't think that would be worth it but if you are OK with doing what you are doing then keep on doing it. Just be aware that the stinkers of the world can make life real pleasant to deal with if something does happen. Please be careful.
Depends on where you live. Most states will require a license for plumbing, HVAC and electrical work at the very least.
just being a handy man you shouldn't need a license, but working with electric you do need a license and be bonded.Depends on your state.
check with your local city hall if you do the work and need a permit you will be made to destruct all you have done.....
Call your state contractors board, they will tell you in a hurry.
agreed with all the others, what state and (sometimes cities) you live in matters check with the dept of consumer protection or something similiar. In my state, (Connecticut) You need a license to walk a dog or sell door to door. We are sooooo proud of licensing and taxing and making everyone who wants to work in this state pay all their hard earned dollars back to the stae , we are gonna be without skilled workers in about 10-15 years! too funny yet all true..
