There's no way for anybody on Y! answers to give you an accurate idea of how much it would cost, even roughly. It all depends on where you live. You can get a paving contractor to do a free estimate, though. Heck, get two or three estimates! Do it soon, though (if you live in a northern area) because paving season is underway and a lot of contractors have their whole season's work already lined up.
cheapest way to do that is find a place that sells processed stone. Usually a place that does roadwork for major jobs has a plant that sells it, You can sometimes pick up yourself. Easier to have them deliver it because it weighs quite a bit. Done this many times for myself and family who wanted a cheap fix to that problems Buy 3/4 inch processed stone it works the best. You probably need maybe 5 tons(just a guess) at maybe 15-20 dollars a ton delivered depending on prices in your area. So your cheap way out might cost you $100-150.00 but you do have to work at shoveling the stuff and leveling it out a bit but it makes quite a nice driveway.
You can get away with a gravel driveway for about $300 in material if it's not too long (50 - 100 feet) depending on how thick you want to spread the gravel. You can get a delivery of gravel brought to you for approximately $500.00 if you don't have your own truck, but you will be making multiple trips with a pickup, where this will all come at once.
If you're only going to be there a couple more years, let the next guy pave the driveway, as it does not add or subtract value from a house.
Don't know as far as mid-atlantic area but I did similar research a few years ago when I considered upgrading an exisiting rock driveway to either asphalt or concrete. What I learned was: asphalt is expensive, and concrete is twice as as much. lol Seriously, call a couple of contractors with each specialty. Ask them for estimates. Most will give an estimate for free if you are serious about the project. And if you are, you should get to know the contractor as much as possible as early as possible. Try to think it through as much as possible so you can give them as many details as you can (write them down) so they can be more accurate with their estimates. If you get something you like, insist on a written bid. No verbals. Also, consider a contract, and review it carefully before signing. Never pay 100% before the job has met your satisfaction and review. Always hold back at least 15 - 25% 'pending final approval of customer and local building / housing code enforcement'. If the contractor is not willing to similar terms, , don't hire him. Good luck
I can't answer that because I do not know the area, location, average construction costs, permit fees, ground information, underground utility and phone locations, etc.
You stated that all you want to know is the price, well here you go... Get ahold of several companies that provide that service and request estimates for your project. Compare each estimate and choose the one that makes you feel that you are receiving the best quality and price.
Unless you are getting advice from a company that is in your area I don't feel that you are getting the information that you are asking for.
