How do I check on a rebate offer that I have not heard back from?

I purchased Glidden exterior paint at Home Depot and sent in the rebate offer with the appropiate register tape, etc. The offer had to be postmarked no later than June 22, 2006. I sent it before the offer expired but have not heard a word. Then recently I purchased more and had another rebate offer and I received the check yesterday. When I sent in the second one I wrote a note asking about the first offer. This first offer was $20.00 off each 5 gallon can of exterior Glidden paint and I bought 3 of the 5 gallon cans, and $5.00 off each gallon and I had 4 of those, which amount to a rebate of $80.00. I am trying to find out why I haven't received the money.

Answers:
If you made a copy of the rebate form that you filled out, and still have the supporting documents (such as receipt, proof of purchase), you can call them. Sometimes things get lost in the mail. By having that information you can call them and tell them when you post marked it and they should accept the copies. 9 out of 10 times, they lost the rebate form.

Other answers:
i wouldn't count on getting it as they are like best buy they offer all these rebates but somehow the 'receipts' (and of course they only accept the originals) get lost or your rebate form mysteriously goes missing.

Its showing you that its working. Its ok.
You can go to the Home Depot web site and check on the status of the rebate or ask the person in the paint dept for the number to call. Stores are often slow about rebate money!
Hellinahandbasket summed it up pretty neatly. Unless you used a credit card, or paid with a check, there is no way to prove you made the purchase and are entitled to the rebate. If you did use these methods you have prove of the purchase but you still don't have the original receipt, but you could use your purchase history and follow up - rebate - action as a possibility of proof.

Personally, I think your rebate is just lost. Good luck.
try finding the main office on the internet and contact customer service..make sure u have the receipt handy..any info will help u when u call..good luck
