Has anyone ever had asbestos tile removed from the basement? Looking to renovate and remove tiles. Price?

I have a basement that has a toilet and shower near laundry machine and sink and asbestos tiles currently covered by old carpet. I was looking to figure out how to redesign to fit in a full shower and remove tiles. The basement is small, about 10X18. Anyone have any ideas how much this would cost and how I go about finding a good contractor? Time it would require?

Answers:
Ck with flooring contractors in the yellow pages. Home depot uses contract labor, but beware ahead of time what it is going to cost. They don't work for home depot, they are just contracted to do work.

Asbestos is hazardous material and needs to be removed and disposed of propely, good luck

It will be a very expensive project. You could encapsulate it and floor over it. But this is just putting problem in next Homeowners lap. You must by law inform anyone who buys from you the fact that asbestos is in the floor. I would get as many bids as possible on the project and would check with BBB and former clients of the contractor before continuing. Lowest price does not mean best. You want to protect yourself and your family from asbestos fibers for now and the future. If a fly by night comes in does the work and leaves you with fibers everywhere you will live with it for the remainder of the time you are in the house. Once they are through take a black glove and go over all the nicks and crannies to make sure you have no residue, make sure they tape up the bathroom vent to prevent any fibers from going into the ceiling. Make sure they do the work with doors to the bathroom closed, to prevent getting fibers in other rooms. Make sure they remove footies and clothes in bathroom before going into other areas of the house. While work is being done and before cleanup the area should be completely isolated.
