Help where can I get a Back door lock for my Conservatory built in 1979.?
Answers:
Hi,you dont say if it has wooden or pvc-u doors, nor do you say what sort of lock it is.A vast majority of conservatories and pvc-u doors have whats known as a euro or oval profile cylinder lock which operates a cam to lock and unlock the doors, but there is also a seperate locking mechanism. If you are merely trying to change the lock so it has a different key then only the euro/oval cylinder itself needs to be removed and measured for there are many different sizes. Some are equal and some are offset ie 40mmx40mm or 50mmx40mm etc.If it is a euro cylinder then the insert will be shaped rather similar to a large "keyhole" Oval are self explanatory. These are held in by a screw in the side of the door and then removed using the key to centre the cam.If you dont have the key then it may need to be drilled out as the offsetting of the cam will prevent removal. The cam is the "tail that spins round to knock over the locking mechanism,to put it simply.
B and Q do a basic length but you may need to go to a lock shop or good ironmongers/hardware shop if its a differing size.
Sorry i cant be more specific but you gave limited information.Hope this has been of help though
