If a map is not available, a simple way to map out you're own lines is to go to a rental shop and rent a sewer tape, and a locator. Push the sewer tape up the sewer from inside the house as far as you can push it. Hook the locator to the sewer tape and use it to locate the sewer line in the yard. The locator I am used to uses a signal to find the sewer line by swinging it back and forth. The locator will beep when it is above the sewer tape that is n the sewer. Mark it on the ground with orange marking paint. Keep doing this until you have it marked out, or come to the end of the sewer tape, which may be at the start of the bad sewer section! Good luck!!

You should got to you local building dept. and see if they have a plot plan of your house and possibly your subdivision. This is public knowledge. So they should have it there. Remember to have a company come out and do a utility locate for you before you dig or you could have more problems then a broken sewer line. Make sure that you also wear protective equipment (gloves, Suit, Boots. ETC.) because you don't want to get sick.
If your in town or on a public system , your city hall will have what you need. If your on a private system , septic tank- holding tank - drainfield- etc. then you need to get ahold of who installed it and see if they remember. or you can take some of the quess out by drawing a line from the house where it exits to a vent in the yard. But you need to give more info if that dont help.
Call diggers hotline. They will mark the line from where it leaves the house to the edge of the property or further.
Wow, that sounds like a hard one. Um, I would ask if the previous owner has any of the documents on that, or if it's a newer house, ask the contractors if they would have some info. Or go to a zoning office, or the public works I think could also help you out, I mean they have to know where the lines run right?
