Call one of the major moving companies and ask if they have any deliveries in your area. If you go to the people moving in, they will probably be overjoyed to have you remove their empty boxes.
Otherwise, major stores, ie K-Mart, Wal Mart, etc. However, most crush their boxes so you are best to get them late at night when they are stocking shelves.

Call a local moving company. They will sometimes give away used boxes.

Most of my moves have been with fruit crates from the local grocery store, or cigarette cases from the local convenience store. You might also check your local discount Mart, they do that in some places.

you can get them from stores. but the best place to get free anything, is FREECYCLE.ORG, you can get pretty much anything.
The green sheet. Also, almost every major moving company now sells their's for half price. Furniture companies are also a good free source. Happy packing!
grocery stores, ask the manager to save them for you. You will be able to get several sizes. Best ones are apple boxes and the boxes cigarettes come in. Best part of apple boxes is that they have lids that slide on and are very stackable.
