Can a Japanese light fixture (100 V) be safely powered by USA (110 V) house current?

Can I wire it directly or will I need to go through some sort of adapter or transformer? If an adapter is needed where might I find one?

Answers:
Japanese fixings are insulated to 120 volt, so there should be no problem there. You'll find that a 100 volt bulb won't last very long at 110 volt and you'll need to replace it with a US one - so before you start, make sure that you can get a bulb that fits.

I SPENT SOME TIME IN JAPAN LIVING ON THE ECONOMY. THE JAPANESE LAMP FIXTURES TOOK STANDARD USA BULBS. I SIMPLY SCREWED THE BULBS(SAY A 40 WATT INCANDESCENT BULB, FOR EXAMPLE) INTO THE JAPANESE LAMP. THERE IS NO PROBLEM UNLESS YOU HAVE SOMETHING UNCOMMON.
