where can i find history about my house?

i need to know if there are any previous notations of my house leaking, it being fixed, and where this mysterious pipe came from, and who is responsible for it.

Answers:
good luck, you can see who owned the house before with the county register of deeds- but who did what- you'd have to hire Monk!

Other answers:
Check your local property appraiser
Check your local property appraiser
move to another house and forget it
I do not believe there is a written history. Each time you open a project it is like a journey of discovery. Each time you run into the unexpected. Home repairs are fraught with pit falls. Good luck!
check at your good ole city hall
Check with your neighbors and have them recommend some repair companies (Electrician, Plumber, handyman, etc..)
Then call those and a few more and explain your dilemna. If you're lucky they keep things on file by address, or you may have to use the previous owners name (check your purchase contract). Don't forget your public utility companies also...
A house may not have a VIN like a car, but the address stays the same...
the pipe, if it's in the basement could have been from a disconnected oil tank or fuel line. in the house then the q is where is it located. do you have a basement? a moisture detector might help. you poke it into the wall. is the basement finished, then its easy to tell. get somebody with some home savey to do a walk through with you. if its a house and you bought it then its all yours.
