How can I finilize a bad deal made with a contractor?

I did everything wrong...did not get specifics in writing. The two month job is now taking 6 months...they are not finishing to my satisfaction...they are not showing up...I've paid not 85% of the negotiated labor cost. About 70-85% of the job is finished. I've learn now "you get what you pay for"...Do I stick it up and somehow make them finish, or do I count my losses and get more professional people? Thank you.
