Occassionally we have black (purple) water come from our faucet when first turned on..it eventually goes away. There is virtually no smell to this discolored water and it has come from the kitchen sink faucet, bathroom sink faucet, toilet bowl and now I believe our swimming pool (as the water is very murky all of a sudden)....does anyone have any idea what this might be?

I believe it might be time to have the plumbing checked. This happened to me while living in Mid-City New Orleans. Invariably it is either the pipes rusting away and allowing dirt and sediment to clog the pipes, or you have some kind of breakage down the line.
Unless of course you are getting your water from a well, in which case you need to dredge the well or dig new.
