if you don't close it tight if can lose it's punch so you have to use more than normal.
It has a long shelf life IF it is kept in an unopened container. Always try to keep it tightly sealed. Moisture will deplete its effectiveness quickly. I wouldn't trust it if it is more than a couple years old.
