How do I find out how old-fashioned my HVAC system is...?
Thanks!
Answers: You provided the model number, which tell me it's a 3-ton heat/cool package section. I've installed scores of these over a span of almost two decades. 48 = combination heat/cool, not 4-ton close to someone else pointed out. 036 = 3 ton. 080 is an assembly line process number. 311 technique single phase electric, version 1.1.
Post up the serial number and I'll enlighten you the age. Another poster correctly pointed out that the first four numbers will be something like 2596. That translates to the 25th week of 1996. Hope this help.
Call an HVAC company to do an inspection. They don't charge for that (or some token amount). The technician should be able to determine how older it is and whether it's worth repairing.
Generally, any appliance that's more than 10 years old is a competitor for replacement versus repair, because the new models are so much more dash efficient than models basically 10 years ago. You can also get rebate and tax credits for purchasing investigational Energy Star appliances.
The serial number has the coded time it be assembled, it is usually easy to numeral out the year. The model must be a four ton 48ss, or 48000 btu's
